A Tender Issue

When diesel locomotives were first introduced on British Rail, in the 1960s, they were lighter than steam engines. As such, they needed to have special brake tenders, to give them extra braking force. These were just low wagons filled with scrap. They were used until the 1980s, when all goods stock was fitted with automatic brakes.

I've seen a few screenshots of my diesel characters with a brake tender that's available on the Download Station. Thing is, the colours on the DLS brake tender didn't quite match, and this stuck out. So I started looking into it. Turns out there are two different types. The earlier design was boxy and angular with outside framing.

So, I did models of them both in various BR liveries.

The above four liveries have been released on my 'Standard Gauge Stock' page, and have also been uploaded to the Trainz Download Station. I also did them in some additional liveries, to match some diesels characters with TV-series inspired liveries.

The Ironworks Green brake tenders have been included in the download for Iron Arry and Iron Bert, along with a 20-ton brake van and a 20-ton tank wagon. The two versions that match Diesel 10 will be released along with him when the time comes.
